Goin Through The Breweries (Birthday Brewpub Edition): The People's Pint

Happy Memorial Day and welcome to another edition of "Goin Through The Breweries" where we go inside New England's breweries big and small. I do want to apologize for no Beer Report article because I got so consumed by sampling the beers that I didn't even think to put descriptions down for each one. I'll make sure not to make that mistake again. But onto this one: The People's Pint. It was my birthday this weekend and I only found it fitting to celebrate at a place fitting for yours truly: brewpubs! And this one people within my inner circle have told me I should try, so here we are. First some history

Background:
People's Pint was started in 1996 and was the very first brewpub in the surrounding area. Its founders Alden Booth and Dan Young opened it as a response to the lack of variety of restaurants from within Franklin County. It soon became a very popular spot and has strived to not just use local fresh ingredients, but also try to do it in ways that won't leave a big environmental impact. Booth and Young no longer work there as they went on to create their own cider business, but loyal customers still come in every day to keep this brewpub alive and going.

The Brewpub:

I have heard this place really fills up on Friday nights so my family and I decided to get there around 5 to beat the crowd. I will say they do well with the layout with enough space separation between the bar, tables and booths. I also like the wait area with enough books for beer snobs to keep them entertained while their group shows up or table is ready. French paintings adorn the walls with a bike theme to each one

The Food

I will admit, getting a burger is pretty easy to do, but my stepdad took the meal I actually wanted and I never like getting a meal someone else at the table wants so I went with this. For what it was, it was pretty good. Brioche buns should be the only buns that should be used for a hamburger, just sayin. The oven fries also were pretty passable, but could used a small sprinkling of salt (but not too much)

The Beer

Trouble- After all the IPAs and stouts Ive had lately and with summer like weather starting to creep in, this was a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't call this refreshing as their is a bit of a bite to it, especially in the after taste, but it served it's purpose. A bit wheaty with raspberries flavors.

Training Wheels- Lately, I've just been taking IPAs that include some sort of hazy, citrus flavors to it and this was essentially it. Doesn't really take too long to get that taste, but it took me a few sips to get that hoppy balance. Decent, but I've had so many that there wasn't anything that makes it really stand out

Organzied Chaos- I was really looking forward ot this, but it turned out to be very meh. Black IPAs are always something I wanna try more black IPAs, but I was expecting some more roastiness to it, but it was just straight up hops. Oh well

Oatmeal Stout- Probably the sweetest stout I've tasted. It was straight oat filled with molasses, toffee, and slight dark chocolate taste. No balance to it.

I will also add in that my stepdad (who is far from a craft beer drinker) did end up trying The People's Pilsner and enjoyed it

Overall
This was a great birthday dinner for me and I'm glad we got their when we did because it really didn't take long for the place to fill up. The food ended up very well and my parents even said they would go again, especially for their quesadillas (which my stepdad got and which I will try for next time). The beer itself was very hit and miss and maybe that has to do with the current state of my palette. The lighter stuff was very good and I will try them out when they , but the darker stuff could've been a bit better with some small improvements. I'll give this a ****/*****

Thank you everyone for your continued support. The next time you'll be seeing me will be for Western Mass beer Week where I hope to do an article a day throughout that week. But until then, enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day and as always, cheers to you!
