Goin Through The Breweries (Suffolk County #1): Dorchester Brewing

Goin Through The Breweries: Dorchester Brewing

It's been awhile since I've done a brewery tour but I'm happy to welcome you to another installment of Goin Through The Breweries. Today, we head out to the South of Boston to a place called the Dorchester Brewery. My friend wanted to bring me to a brewery when I was staying in Boston for the weekend and this was the closest one to us. This place is a bit unique as it is considered a partner brewing facility that helps other brewers in the region produce their beer. This name might sound familiar to fellow readers as the place that helps Omnipollo with their products, like the Mango S'more (I'm still very saddened by how that turned out). Let's dive in a little deeper into this place

Inside The Taproom:

First impression was that the taproom was surprisingly small, but part of the reason had to do with the fact that half of it was closed off for the day for some sort of the conference. They do have tables near the front but when my friend and I went, it was the middle of a Sunday brunch and each one was taken so we just stayed at the bar to drink. If it wasn't for the fact that I was being careful with cash during my visit I would've also reviewed the food, but unfortunately I couldn't really do it. I have a feeling if we went at a later time when it was less busy, I would've felt less claustrophobic, but what another friend of mine has told me, it usually is less busy during the week. The service itself wasn't too bad, very friendly people behind the bar and and a bit knowledgeable about the products they produce.

The Beers:

Evil Twin Eggnog IPA: Who would've thought such a concept like this could actually work (at least for people who like interesting concepts)? Very thick texture with a very egg nogish flavor to it. Now I wouldn't run and get a six pack of this, but if it was the holiday season and I was feeling in a festive mood, this would be a great seasonal beer to have. This one was my friend's favorite.

Dorchester Brewing Dorchestivus: Doppelbocks just aren't my thing from the few times I had them and I just hoping maybe this could make me change my mind, but unfortunately it couldn't. If you are into them, you might enjoy this but I wasn't feeling it.

Dorchester Brewing Stove By A Whale Porter: This beer had me with it's toasty tastes. Not too heavy with the coffee flavors with the caramel and sugar found in the mix. Would definitely get a six pack.

Backlash The Great Molasses Disaster Imperial Stout: All I can say was: eh. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't really any different from other stouts I have tried before. Maybe I was expecting a sweeter taste with the molasses, but it was a bit bitter in the mouthfeel.

Final thoughts: It sucks that we couldn't get a tour of the facility itself and see all the beers from other companies being made, I would've loved that, but from what I got from my visit, it was ok. Hopefully if I go again, it won't be as hectic and if the Egg Nog IPA is any indication, the creativity of this place would keep me coming back whenever I'm in the area (and just looking at the current beer menu I see on the website, there is quite a bit of those to taste). I'll give this a ****/*****

Until next time, this is Andrew saying Cheers to you!
