Reviewin The Brews #8: Lawson's Sip Of Sunshine
It's been three long months, but I am proud to say: ANDREW HAS RETURNED! Yes sire, after a short hiatus, I have decided to come out of the hole I've been in to resume by beer reviewin (and drinking) activities. Now as I was planning my comeback I was thinking: What is the most popular craft here in New England that everyone can agree is among our best? Well after seeing the choices my peers made during our trivia nights as well as snooping around the various beer groups I am a part of, I found quite a lot of attention on today's choice: Lawson's Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine! I can't wait to try this out for all of you. But you know the drill people: First, let's get to know a bit about the beer and the company behind it!
Background: Lawson's Finest Liquids was created by Sean Lawson in 2008 after him and his wife Karen had been home brewers for the better part of 20 years. While IPAs has been Sean's fortay over the years, he has also done many maple beers as well. Within a few years of starting his business, he moved operations to a small sugarhouse next to their home in VT. As the popularity of their brews started to grow, Sean and Karen eventually decided to enter contract brewing with two Roads Brewing in Stratford, CT. Sip Of Sunshine has been one of two flagship brews for Lawson's (the other being Super Sessions #8) and has won numerous awards at The Great American Beer Festival, The World Beer Cup, and The National IPA Championship. Now let's get to trying out this awesome beer!!!
The Can:
Something about this can art reminds me of the boxes of incense that my mother use to get when i was a kid. But I consider that a good thing here as it seems to go with the style of beer in this instance. I also like the little directions they give on the side of the can on how to properly enjoy the experience of drinking it.
Appearance: straw yellow colors grace the glass. head is medium. Small carbonate
Aroma: Damn that's juicy! Lemons and oranges really fills up the nostrils with some floral and very slight hop aromas snuck in as well. Definitely a pre-drink experience to remember!
Taste: Well the "tropical vacation" description didn't lie here! Tropical fruit flavors make themselves present from the first drop. Tasted much more hoppy than I thought it would but it doesn't last too long
Overall impression: From the first whiff of the glass to the last drop, this was a fun experience. It already helps that when it comes to IPAs, the juicer the better for this guy right here. Highly recommended to the ones that haven't heard about it, you will not regret it! A solid 5/5 from me, which is the first one I've ever given right here on Brewin Around!
Well I'd say we're off to a good start to the return. If you check out the main page you'll notice a few changes I've made along with a snazzy new logo. Feel free to check out any reviews you haven't seen yet if you can. Up next on the agenda: A trip over to the Dorchester Brewing Company just outside of Boston. But until then, this is Andrew saying Cheers to you!
