Goin Through The Breweries (Middlesex County #1): Jack Abby's Ales and Lagers

Goin Through The Breweries: Jack Abby's

Welcome to a milestone edition of Goin Through The Breweries, yes you read that right, milestone. And why you may ask? Well for this edition, we have gotten out of Western Mass and over to the opposite side of the state to a popular spot called Jack Abby's Ales and Lagers in the town of Framingham MA. This is probably the first place I've been to that specializes in the lighter side of the beer wheel and before I even went I already saw a lot of praise for the different types of lagers it sells. To me it seems refreshing because right now most places like to focus on what's trendy right now like IPAs. I brought my friend Tobi who lives in the same area and he' been here quite a few times, so let's dive right in...

The Building: Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but the place looked like it was originally an auto shop or warehouse considering the doors and the fact it has so much space in it. This place was huge and it was nice to be in a spot where it doesn't feel overcrowded

A view of the brewing room (where is everybody?)

                                         It's (wood fire) pizza time!!!!

Not too shy to show off their awards

The Food: As I said in a previous article, what better combination is there besides beer and pizza (Okay many things, but you get the picture here) and boy did these guys know how to make a pizza pie! When the pizza came to our table, it didn't take long for it to cool off, which was a major plus for me since i would never eat pizza hot out of the oven. The crust was thick and chewy and the pepperoni reminded me of the kind an old friend of mine's dad would use on his homemade pizzas. I would get it again if I ever went back

                                                  In all it's gooey goodness

As for my friend Tobi, he got a favorite of his which was called the pork shank, which had grilled pork with leeks, baby carrots and kale mashed potatoes on the side. The meat fell right off the bone and he described it as being juicy and full of flavor

You don't see something like this outside of the holidays

The Beers:

Here is how I ranked my beers:

4. Really though IPA- It really wasn't anything different from other IPAs I've tried before and compared to the others I've tried on this trip, there was nothing unique about it

3. Hopinus on holiday- very juicy in taste and i wish there were more of these around

2. Smoke and Dagger- Anything that gives me the feeling of being in a campground sitting around the fire ranks high no matter what. And this was a lager we're talking about. Very well done

1. PB&J Barrel Aged Framminghammer Porter- Unique, loved the sweetness, made well on it's promises as to what it is as you get the peanut butter taste right away. Best porter I've tried so far on this blog.

As for Tobi, he tried out: Spill The Tea Pale Lager, The Brewery Maker Lager Wine, The Brigadeiro Standard Porter and The Cranberry Lager.

To him, he felt the best one was Spill The Tea Just on creativity alone
The worst was The Brewery maker as it tasted like cough syrup and not beer.
The Brigadeiro wasn't anything special to him.
And The Cranberry Lager is a good casual lager for anyone who don't wanna be too daring when they go here

Overall thoughts: This seemed like a pretty good place. It's roomy, the selection of beers to try looked endless, the food is awesome. If i did have to give any sort of criticism, I'd say they should try to come up with more creative entrees. The menu looked like things you could get at any other restaurant and I remember seeing they had Korean BBQ pizza, which i thought about getting at first but then decided to keep it cheap instead. It would also be great if they did brewery tours on both Saturday and Sunday and have it be for more than a few hours for the entire day because that's what bug me about places like The Berkshire Brewing Company who only opens for tours for an hour. There are people that wanna see the process so maybe just experiment with that and see how it goes. I know both Tobi and I would've liked it Other than that I enjoyed my time. this place gets a ****.50/*****

Thanks for reading and until next time, this is Andrew saying Cheers to you!
