Hello there, if you have found this blog, Congratulation! You have decided to join me on what is sure to be a fantastic journey. Now you might be wondering to yourself, of all the things to create a blog about, why would you select beer? Which is a fair question and I think it really just goes back to when I graduated college. Once I found myself back home, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands to explore places within my area, I always found myself drawn to the local breweries that in the last few years have been popping up in my home state of Massachusetts and in New England for that matter. The craft beer renaissance, as I like to call it, has been one that I have gradually found myself more and more interested in as the years have passed until just last year, I decided that this interest was enough for me to pursue more greatly. Just last Christmas I remember the main theme was pretty much beer related items, such as a new beer kit and many books celebrating beer culture and how to guidelines.
Now I will admit, I am not the biggest expert, nor would I ever claim to be one. I'm not like all those beer snobs you see everywhere else who follow specific guidelines as to what they think an actual good beer should be. Hell I rarely ever check that many of more well known blogs on the web. I guess through all of this, what I'm trying to say is that I want this blog to be for the everyday person who enjoys beer, but doesn't have an interest in finding out all the terminology and technical information, So expect a more laid back approach.
So what you can find from this blog: reviews of craft brews (both locally and from across the lower 48), reviews of breweries across the region, reports on the status of my in home brewing progress (there are many that I am eager to get started on!), special reports from local beer festivals and the occasional editorial on news from within the beer industry. New posts will appear once a week unless I feel like there is something that needs to go out quickly. Feel free to leave me any suggestions as to what you wanna see here. Brewin and Mashin is for you and I want to make sure everyone has a voice here.
So get ready because this journey is gonna be one I hope takes us to many great destinations. The first review will be of The Berkshire Brewing Company, a spot many people here in Western Mass know a thing or two about. I might also do a piece that will explain New England's relationship to brew culture either before or right after the BBC review. But until then, this is Andrew saying Cheers To You
