Reviewin The Brews #1: Relic Black Dawn Stout

Reviewin The Brews: Relic Black Dawn Stout

Hello there and welcome to the first edition of "Reviewin the Brews" where I take a look at both local and national craft brews and give my own thoughts about them. I originally wanted to do this next week so I can focus on doing the Berkshire Brewing Company review for this week, but I just can't wait to get something out here sooner than later so what the heck?
First, a little background information behind this the company that has made this brew and for that, we have to go down to just one state below us in the state of Connecticut to a town called Plainville. Opening in 2012, this brewery creates over 60 gallons of different beers every week and has become popular enough to have their brews shipped up to Massachusetts. I checked out their menu when doing a bit of research and from the looks of it, they aren't shy with jumping on the recent IPA trend that has been become popular in more recent times. 50% of their menu had an IPA of some sort found in it. Me personally, I'm not the biggest fan of IPA. But that's ok, different people equal different tastes and that is something I truly believe should be accepted, no matter if it's with beer or other things in life.
It should also be noted that the brew that I am brewing today was one of two that my girlfriend got me as a Valentine's Day gift since she knows how much I enjoy beer culture. Hopefully I will get to review the second one very soon. But for now let's get to the review.

First Impressions: So the first thing to see here is the bottle already describes this as "dark" "rich" and "roasty". The wrapping shows an interesting "sun" that goes with the "Black Dawn" name. I'm always a sucker for dark colored wrapping so this put a smile on my face already.

Aroma: When you first smell it, as it promises, it smell very smoky with a little bit of that stouty coffee smell (for lack of a better word) mixed in

Appearance:
Very dark for a stout, almost reminds you of molasses. The head (that's the foam found at the top of the brew that helps bring out the aroma) starts out medium size before slowly disintegrating

Taste: Very nutty flavor and when it first hits hits your tongue, the taste starts out mild until it slowly grows. I don't think I've ever had a stout that has done that before but for all you dark brew fans, this is one to check out just for that fact alone. The aftertaste is a bit roasty and lingers for a bit.

So all in all, I'd give this a ****/*****, one of the more roaster stouts I've had and I would definitely try again.

Next up, my tour of The Berkshire Brewing Company. But until then, this is Andrew saying Cheers to you!
